Ayleston St James 1st XV V Belper 1st XV Belper contained a large Ayleston side early on, with the home side attacking Belper's defence and winning a penalty, which was converted. Ayleston continued to attack the home sides try line and after some solid Belper defending a long clearance kick from Fly-Half, Jon Holmes, was picked up on the home sides 22 and scored by Paul Buzzard under the posts with the conversion by Steve Dymond. Aylestone conceded a late first half penalty, which was converted by Steve Dymond. The home side continued to attack and Belpers strong defence held out with Mike French and 'Merv' Holmes making try saving tackles. HALF TIME-: Ayleston St James 3, Belper 10. The 2nd half started with Belper working hard in all departments to break down the home sides defence which was duly punctured, 15 minutes into the half with Paul Buzzard scoring, wide of the posts, the attempted conversion was missed. Ayleston continued to attack but all to no avail as Belpers disciplined defence stood strong. Belpers major fund raising campaign continues at pace with a club calendar going on sale for 2002 with all proceeds towards the 'National Lottery' bid for the new clubhouse and community centre and can be purchased at 'Amberstat' and 'Hair Design', both on Bridge Street, Belper, with other outlets in the town being explored. |
