Belper opened their new season in Midlands 5 with an emphatic victory, scoring 17 tries and 7 conversions to only a penalty in response.
Belper's try scorers were 4 for Gray, 3 for Naylor, 2 apiece for Bid Blount and Emslie, and 1 each for Bennion, Holmes Gratton, Omara, Adams and Dobber jnr
Belper just simply had too much for the Doniungton team to handle with Belper pressuring from the off finding themselves 10 nil up after 3 minutes and continued to press throughout the match.
Donington fielded a weak side but Belper punished nearly every time they got the ball, with Man of the match Naylor quick to move the ball won by the forwards out to the backs so Gray and Emslie could exploit their pace, and Blackwell and Bennion could show off their handling skills with some slick interplay in the backs, causing all kinds of problems to the visitors defence.
Omara and Blount controlled the forwards well and despite the Donington pack being stronger Belper dominated with Gratton putting his opposite number in all kinds of trouble. Even Adams showed flashes of pace, nearly running a try in from 60 yards only to get caught short by long grass and a pacey prop.
Belper deserved their win but as coaches Barden and Boyd pointed out still had a lot to work on as this new league will bring much much tougher tests!!
