Belpers 2nds played in a hasty re-arranged fixture away at Tupton with devastating results, hammering their hosts 62-5.
Belper travelled the short distance up the A61 and spent a while finding the social club-cum-changing facilities. But after a lengthy warm up in the strong wing Belper started well with the forward's asorbing all the punching, gouging, kicking, and stamping from the opposition to release the ball to the backs, who were to have a field day.
It quickly became apparent that Tupton's back line just weren't up to the job and belper began to score tries at will, with sublime runs from the centre partnership of stalwart Andy Laven and new boy Simon Bennion. By half time Belper had racked up 40+ points with no reply from the visitors.
For some reason Mitch Town incurred the wrath of the home team's resident angry person who seemed to spend a lot of time tap dancing all over the Belper flanker, but Belper wouldn't be drawn into a fight and let their rugby do the talking. Time and again the ball came out on the Belper side to a back line who were lethal once they got up to full pace.
Regular service out from Nicholson saw the back line scoring 8 tries in all, with Bennion bagging 4, Andy Laven getting a hat-trick, and Emslie getting another. Willan had a fine game and the kiwi was unlucky not to score himself following a magnificent break from his own half. Day also produced some fine runs through the opposition but was always helpp up short. Pellét was also unfortunate not to score when he tripped over a blade of grass with only the line in front of him.
The forwards weren't to be outdone however and added tries by York, and 2 from second row Endecot, the second being a particularly fine team effort.
In the second half Tupton realised their back line wasn't cutting the mustard and started to keep the ball in the forwards, and a sustained piece of forward play saw phase after phase being thwarted by a sound Belper defence, but after about 15 phases Belper succumbed and Tupton powered over for a try.
This was a good team performance from a Belper side who weren't going to be intimidated. Credit should also go to Emslie who managed to slot 6 conversions in almost gale force winds.
