Week two in the Big Belper 2nd XV changing rooms and the team mates aren't happy after failing last weeks task by just a few points the team mates were looking forward to a fine victory over Leesbrook. But a cruel twist of fate saw and a last minute change means they wouldn't be facing Leesbrook as expected but instead the less appealing prospect of Ilkeston 2nd/3rd team. Also this week things are all shook up with only half of the original team mates from last week remaining, some having been evicted to the first team and others just not available.
It didn't go too well Ilkeston started piling up the points almost immediately and saw no real signs of stopping, until Simon Cooke called for a change in tactics After a quick team talk Cookie told us to stop over committing in the rucks and mauls and to concentrate on our defensive line in the hope of forcing mistakes. Within a matter of minutes this new approach provided us with an excellent five minutes of rugby deep within the Ilkeston half that resulted in a try from second row Simon Blount. Andy Laven also decided he'd like to score as well and went on one of his trademark runs and score he did but also causing himself an injury. This forced him to leave the Big Belper pitch so his brother and stand by team mate Tony Laven could come on.
In the second half Ilkeston bringing on fresh legs managed to keep their points on an upward curve yet the team mates failed to give up. Through sheer determination they managed to secure a further five points as either new comer Dave Harland or prop Matt O'Mara grounded the ball over the line. There has been a lot of speculation in the media over this try and a lack of decent footage from the Big Brother pitch hasn't helped, but one anonymous team mate has been quoted in Heat magazine as saying "It was definitely Dave who scored, I was right there next to him when it went down. But you know for a few quid I'm prepared to change my mind". The fact that the individual in question has gone on to say he is unavailable for the next three weeks is very suspicious indeed.
The boys played extremely well against a much stronger side never once giving up. Especially Jason "Pellet" Taylor who put in tackle after tackle after tackle on some of the biggest players on the park. However you may have seen the despicable pictures in the Mirror of young Pellet unable to keep his man of the match beer down and spraying the shocked on lookers with beer, in one of Belper's exclusive and trendy night spots.
