Belper 1st XV 7 - Bakewell 1st XV 31

Belper met Bakewell looking to get back to winning ways but with a much changed squad with several key players missing.

Within minutes of the start Belper were 7 points down following a good move in the Bakewell backs with the Bakewell no.7 diving over under the posts.

Belper then showed some good back play with Holmes chipping into the Bakewell 22 and with Tennick and Wilson chasing down the kick, the Full back knocked on with Wilson popping the ball to Tennick who fed Harron who scored in the corner, Holmes then stepped up and slotted the kick over from the angle to even the scores.

Despite good forward pressure with the ever green T Laven and Blount showing the youngsters how to carry the ball on and set up rucks it was Belper again who conceeded a futher try to Bakewell. Belper then lost both Fly half and scrum half to injury and with an already depleted squad they had to shuffle players into foreign positions.

Despite the efforts of all the Belper players with Man of the Match Dakin taking the ball on well and the forwards pressuring the Bakewell defence for much of the match, the lack of creativity in the backs meant Bakewell held firm and then used their skilled players to their advantage with slick passing and movement allowing them to run out 31-7 victors.

Belper now have a 2 week break from league matches to recoup and ready themselves for the final 2 games of the season against the low lying Rolls Royce and Leesbrook
