Belper 1st XV 27pts Keyworth 1st XV 8pts (NLD League One)
Another good weekend for Belper with the 1st XV leading the
way with victory, followed by both the 2nds and 3rds winning. Keyworth took an early lead
and scored a try before Belper had got into their stride. However, they soon came under a
great deal of pressure from the Belper pack, ably led by front row Alan Mayes, Val Morrell
and man of the match Mike Wild.
This pressure saw two penalties conceded, which were duly converted by the trusty boot of
Fly-half Steve Dymond to give Belper the lead they retained until the final whistle.
Prop Mike Wild powered over from loose play for an impressive first try, converted by
Dymond and then Belper's powerful runs and recycling began to cause chaos.
Andy Laven began to make incursions into the line from full-back and his speed added to
the pressure.
Fluent handling and quick ball from the base of the scrum saw the ball frequently moved
wide to the wings and this saw speedy winger Chris Burton nip in for two further tries,
both converted by Dymond.
A good win continued Belpers climb up the league table.

A keenly contested game saw Belper deservedly take honors.
Playing their normal expansive game, they scored two tries to one.
Captain Geoff Hornby, back from an overseas trip, organised the team into a cohesive unit
that they were very determined to win the game.
Ian Yates, Brent Lyons and Ian Davidson provided a sound front row platform that ensured
that Belper gained good controlled possession.
In the back row Martin Robinson, Tony Isset and Rob Lea were always first to the ball in
the loose and ensured that the team had plenty of attacking opportunities.
With Greg Hopkinson winning plenty of line-out ball the team kept going forward throughout
the game.
Paul Smith raced over for an early try and Rob Lea bundled over for second before
Andy Birchett made the victory secure with a dropped goal from in front of the posts,
following excellent work by he entire pack and deft handling from the scrum half Hornby.

A powerful performance by the pack ensured that the ball
was available for the excellent scrum half Mick Finn to continually release the team onto
the attack.
John Laven opened the scoring with the first of his three tries when he picked up and
charged over from a quickly won ruck.
Man of the match prop Phil Robinson then bulldozed over from another quickly won maul and
then set up Laven for his second and third tries.
Simon Blount then followed up with a try from a line-out
won in the corner by Chris Smith. Shortly after Blount burst his
way over for his second try of the game.
The speedy, decisive running of Pete Foulke then saw him race in for a try before
the final try was scored by veteran second row forward Chris Smith when he was
bundled over by the pack following a line-out he had won himself.
Finn converted six of the tries to bring up the half-century of points in an easy win.
